After Trump win, Yellen says she plans to serve out full term
That Brooklyn drawl isn’t going anywhere soon: Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen on Thursday said she plans to serve out her full term, in her first public comments since the victory of President-elect Donald Trump.
Speaking to the Joint Economic Committee of Congress, Yellen said she can’t envision a situation in which she would not serve out her full term. Her term expires in February 2018.
“It’s fully my intention to serve out my term,” Yellen said.
Trump frequently criticized Yellen during the presidential campaign.
“And we have a Fed that’s doing political things. This Janet Yellen of the Fed,” he said at one debate. “The day Obama goes off, and he leaves, and goes out to the golf course for the rest of his life to play golf, when they raise interest rates, you’re going to see some very bad things happen, because the Fed is not doing their job. The Fed is being more political than Secretary Clinton.”
In May, Trump made clear that he doesn’t want Yellen around.
“I have nothing against Janet Yellen whatsoever, she’s very capable person. But she’s not a Republican,” Trump said. “When her time is up I would most likely replace because of the fact it would be appropriate.”
